Preparation for State of Hawaii Massage Therapy Written Examination

The  Hawaii Massage Academy prepares you to take and successfully pass the state examination.

We have successfully trained more than 4,000 students!

The HMT program is 640 hours and 30 weeks in duration. It satisfies the minimum requirements of the State of Hawai’i and is considered an entry level program. Students enrolled in this program receive academic and practical training in the classroom environment during the first eight weeks. The remaining 22 weeks are devoted to self-paced supervised practical training in the Hawai’i Massage Academy Clinic.

We offer a comprehensive massage class in the structure and function of the human body, emphasizing the skeletal, muscular, and organ systems.


Pathology is the study of disease—to practice safety, massage therapists need a basic understanding of the pathological processes.


Structural kinesiology is the study of the articular system and types of movements permitted by diathrodial joints.

Theory and Demonstration of Massage

During these massage classes, you learn the proper procedure of massage concerning the protection of both client and therapist. You also learn about record keeping, hygiene, theory, technique for specific conditions, contraindications of massage, draping, and the assessment of the client's condition as well as the general technique to be applied. After completing the training during our massage classes, you will be able to perform:

  • The Basic Theories for Physiologic Effects of Massage Methods & Manipulations
  • Sequenced Massage Methods &Manipulations into Basic Flow Patterns
  • 1-Hour Full-Body Massages Using Methods & Manipulations Presented Below


 *Learn our patented 1-hour full-body massage. It combines Swedish (Classical Western Massage) with elements of Shiatsu (Japanese), and trigger-point therapy(American). This modality reflects the cultural diversity that is unique to Hawaii.
